Gallbladder pain is an increasing problem to many people today. Gallbladder is a small pear-shaped muscular organ located directly under the liver. It is connected to the liver and the upper part of the small intestine through a canal-like system. Gallbladder is the organ that acts as a storage vessel for bile. Bile is a liquid produced by the liver and it works to digest fats and lipids. The gallbladder keeps the bile stored when we take food in order to break down the fat contents in the food.
Causes of Gallbladder Pain
Gallbladder pain is usually caused because of the presence of gallstones, which are cholesterol deposits. When cholesterol is in excess amount in the body, it bounds together and forms a stone. There are also other reasons for the formation of gallstones; they are also formed because of excess amount of calcium and bile salts in the body. These gallstones tend to block the flow of the bile from the gallbladder, and this causes gallbladder pain. Gallbladder pain occurs in the side of the chest or in the upper right portion of the body. Apart from gallstones, there can also be two other reasons for gallbladder pain. They are excessive storage of bile in the gallbladder, which causes the gallbladder to swell and a defective gallbladder. The gall bladder pain or attack will typically last for one to four hours, as gallbladder is a very tender organ, the pain will be very crucial.
Gallbladder Pain Symptoms
One will not experience any gallbladder pain symptoms as soon as he gets attacked by the disease. The gall bladder pain disease starts developing symptoms once the gallstones reach a certain size of more than 8mm. Most of the commonest gallbladder pain symptoms are very difficult to be identified as a gallbladder attack. The most common gallbladder pain symptoms are pain in the upper abdomen, chest pain in the right side, pain between the shoulder blades, pain under the right shoulder, nausea or queasiness, vomiting, fatigue, indigestion, constipation, diarrhea, pain or vomit immediately after eating fatty foods, bitter fluid repeating after taking food, difficulty in inhaling deeply, fever and bloating of the abdomen. So, if one has some of the above problems they should not take it easy but should go under medical analysis. Gall bladder pain relief
Removal of the gallbladder through surgery is the usual treatment for gall bladder pain relief. But if there are only a few gallstones, the stones may be attempted to be fragmented so they can pass through the gallbladder without much difficulty. The treatment to fragment the stones is done by electrohydraulic shock wave lithotripsy with ursodeoxycholic acid. The other method of treatment is fluoroscopically guided endoscopy, where a basket is used to trap the gallstones and remove them through a catheter. The gallstones are also dissolved by Chenodeoxycholic acid. The gall bladder pain suffering patients are advised to follow a diet consisting of low-carbohydrate, high protein, low fat, non-spicy meals. They are also advised to take vitamin K supplementation.
Home Remedies for Gallbladder Pain
Though the gallbladder pain attacked patients are advised to go under medical treatment, there are also a few home remedies for gall bladder pain relief. If the gallstones are smaller in size, they can usually be cleared through dieting. If the gallbladder pain is because of the inflammation of the gallbladder, the patient should fast for two to three days until the ctitical condition is cleared. They should not take any food during this period except water. After the fast, the patient should take fruit juices and vegetable juices for a few days. The fruits and vegetables which are good for the gallbladder pain suffering patients are carrots, beet-roots, grapefruit, pears, lemons or grapes. After this, the patient should follow a well balanced diet, giving importance to raw and cooked vegetables, fruit juices, vegetable juices, and a small amount of fruits and seeds. The diet should include yoghurt, cottage cheese and a tablespoon of olive oil twice a day. The patient should avoid meat, eggs, animal fats, artificial foods like packed, stuffed and coloured foods, fried and oily foods, refined carbohydrates, alcohol, recipes made with sugar, coffee and spices, condiments, and pickles. The patient should eat small quantity at a time rather than large meals when having gallbladder pain.
